The Significance of the Ribble Estuary
The Ribble Estuary is of monumental importance within the UK, being the most significant single river estuary in the country. It serves as a sanctuary for a myriad of bird species.
Indeed, the estuary sees more than a quarter of a million avian visitors each year, making it a paradise for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts alike.
The Migratory Birds of the Ribble Estuary
The estuary is a vital stopping point for migratory birds journeying from the icy lands of the Arctic to the warmer climates of Africa. During the spring and autumn seasons, the estuary teems with up to 300,000 birds, making it one of the top bird-watching destinations in the UK.
